My Personal Journey Through Grief

Grief is a universal experience, yet its expression is deeply personal. My own journey has been shaped by the loss of three beloved souls—my brother, my husband, and my father. Each loss brought its own set of challenges and lessons, profoundly influencing both my life and my creative voice.

Losing my brother was my first intimate encounter with death. His absence created a silence I couldn’t explain—a void that felt unbearable. He was more than family; he was my confidant and companion. That loss taught me that grief often arrives unannounced and overwhelming, but it also reminds us to hold tightly to the memories of those we’ve loved.

The death of my husband ushered in a different kind of grief—raw, relentless, and all-consuming. The life we built together was suddenly gone, and I found myself alone, a widow with three children. The emotional turbulence—denial, anger, sorrow—was paralyzing at times. I learned that healing begins when we allow ourselves to feel. Suppressing pain only deepens it. Writing became my sanctuary, a place where I could be vulnerable, even when I had to appear strong for the world especially my children.

When my father passed, grief took on a quieter, more reflective tone. I found myself contemplating legacy, responsibility, and the tender ache of love lost. I remembered the little notes he used to write—small gestures that carried so much meaning. His memory lives on in my poetry, especially in my upcoming book, Hearts Lament – The Beauty of Becoming. Through it, I hope to connect with others who are navigating similar paths, offering comfort and solidarity through shared experience.

The Healing Power of Creative Expression

Creative expression is a lifeline for those journeying through grief. In the depths of sorrow, art offers a way to speak when words fail. Whether through writing, painting, music, or movement, creativity becomes a mirror for our emotions and a vessel for healing.

For me, writing was a refuge—a sacred space where I could confront the chaos within. Putting pen to paper gave shape to my pain, transforming it into something tangible and meaningful. Each word became a release, each stanza a step toward understanding.

Artistic expression has profound therapeutic value. It allows us to reflect, to process, and to rediscover ourselves. Whether through color, rhythm, or metaphor, creativity helps us reconnect with the memories of those we’ve lost and begin to rebuild from the inside out.

From visual arts to journaling, from songwriting to spoken word, these outlets offer a path forward. They help us transform sorrow into beauty, and silence into voice.

Introducing Hearts Lament: A Collection of Reflections

Hearts Lament – The Beauty of Becoming is my forthcoming poetry collection—a deeply personal exploration of grief, healing, and transformation. These poems are born from lived experience, crafted to give voice to emotions that are often difficult to name.

This book isn’t a guide on how to grieve. It’s a window into my heart during the most vulnerable moments of my life. Each piece invites readers to reflect, to feel, and to find their own truths within the lines. It’s a celebration of resilience and the quiet strength that emerges from pain.

The collection is thoughtfully organized into sections that mirror the stages of my journey—from heartbreak to acceptance, from sorrow to empowerment. My hope is that readers will see their own stories reflected in these pages and feel less alone.

Hearts Lament is more than a book. It’s a companion for anyone walking through grief. It’s a testament to the beauty of becoming—of growing through what we never imagined we could survive.
